Learn to Paint Online

Ok so I have been very busy over the past few months when I decided to bring my painting workshops online. I have been creating videos of painting online to share with not just my students by anyone wishing to learn the joys of painting. The idea behind being able to learn to paint online is that you are able to work through the abundance of free tutorials in your own time.

I hope to be able to teach as many people as possible about the process of painting using the beautiful medium of acrylic.

Abstract Art Paintings

So it would seem abstract art is back in demand! Having sold quite alot of abstract paintings lately I have decided to create some new abstract pieces. I enjoy the freedom of abstracts and I often go straigtht into a painting and see where is takes me, this can be extremely rewarding and therapeutic.

I build the layers up by starting with plenty of glazes and slowly build up to an impasto (thick application).

I hope you enjoy the new abstract paintings I am creating as much as I enjoy creating them!

New Painting Classes Portsmouth

I have some new painting classes starting in the coming weeks. I teach regular sessions on a Monday morning and Thursday morning from my studio for anyone wishing to learn to paint. Some people have a fear of drawing and painting which I believe stems back from childhood – ‘stay in the lines’ sound familiar? but fear not I break everything down step by step to make it easy to digest. My weekday classes are mostly booked up with regulars however I am always open to offering other classes.

My workshops are very relaxed and welcoming and for mixed abilities so don’t put it off any longer, why not sign up to a class and learn the hugely rewarding joys of painting. Find out more here: Painting workshops

I also run monthly Saturday workshops with different themes. Please feel free to contact me for more details or call 07843439601

Portsmouth Omega Arts Fair

Last weekend saw Omega Arts first ever Art Fair and I was thrilled to not only have been apart of it and exhibiting some of my work but to have organised the event along with Tim Arnold who also works for the WEA. We had over 23 exhibitors selling various arts and crafts and it was a hugely enjoyable day.

It’s hoped that the Art Fair will continue and grow year on year. We had alot of great feedback from both exhibitors and visitors.

For more information on future events and workshops held by Omega Arts please visit: Omega Arts website

Satisfaction of Teaching Painting

Painting Course There is nothing more rewarding then seeing a smiling face at the end of painting session. A big well done to Donna for completing her beautiful landscape painting using Acylics.

During the final session there were some hairy moments when Donna started experimenting with the paint but she ‘went for it’ and the results are this amazing and uplifting piece, which she is really proud of.

Donna enjoys working on a large painting as it gives her the freedom to throw the paint around and not get to fiddly! Donna has been coming to my painting classes held at the Omega Centre in Portsmouth for almost a year and has improved leaps and bounds through lots of trial and error.

Donna has already started selling her work and they are certainly get alot of attention.

“I love my painting class. The group is so supportive to each other. Michelle extends each of us in the ways we need to be extended as individuals ” Donna

Painting Commission for Interior Designer

Before Christmas I completed the below commission for an interior designer in London which I really enjoyed painting. It was a huge canvas of 48x48inches and took up quite a bit of space in my studio. I just about managed to squeeze it in my sisters car to hand deliver it (being just before Christmas I was concerned about damages) It was an Abstract painting for a client of hers.

Large Abstract

I was thrilled to receive another message from the designer this month for another commission of the same size for a different piece (as below) an have just completed the work and am waiting for it to dry before packaging to send.

Interior Designer Commission

There is something very satisfying about working on such a large painting, there is more freedom in the brushmarks and it’s almost as though you are using your whole body to create the piece. The oil paints seem to slide across the canvas and the colours light up.

I used liquin original to help speed the drying times and I am now literally watching paint dry so I can send the artwork hopefully by Wednesday which is when the team are at the clients house.

Until nex time…..

Artists Learning to Paint Group

I have set up a Facebook group for Artists learning to paint. I have a number of students, many of which enjoy creating artwork outside of my workshops so I felt this would be a great opportunity for them to connect with each other (as I run many classes) and upload and share their artwork. I can also offer feedback should they request it.

Being an artist can be a little isolating at times and you tend to shut yourself off in your studio, so this is a good way for them to connect with each other.

The group is closed and you have to request to join, the main reason being so that people trying to promote services don’t join and to keep it a little more private, however it is not just limited to people in my classes, it is open to anyone who is in the process of learning to paint.

New Website Launched

I’m really excited to launch my brand new website. It’ s been many years since my artist website has been updated as alot of my time goes into teaching and running my other online art gallery: www.art2arts.co.uk selling original artwork for other artists across the UK.

I finally managed to set a little time aside to build this site and add all my artwork. There is still alot to do but it’s a vast improvement on what I had before, so watch this space……

This site also allows me to blog about what I am up to and offer tips for those wishing to learn to paint. I run a number of workshops so if you ever want to get in touch about art classes or about my painting please feel free to email me.

Thank you.
